It can be so easy to allow something and someone other than Christ to influence your opinion of yourself.
I know from experience.
Let me share a liberating truth from my life with you:
My identity, worth, and mood should be contingent on nothing and no one but Christ.
Who I am is not found in the things that I own or the people who approve of me. Who I am is found in the truth that I am washed in the blood of Jesus, a child of God through the Spirit of Adoption (Rom. 8:15).
Yes, I want people who follow after God and have a relationship with Him to believe in my relationship with God, but my identity is not based on what people believe is true, it is based on what God says is true.
My worth is not found in what others say I deserve or what I believe I deserve. My worth is not based on how my boyfriend treats me or my family supports me. My worth is found in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Christ. While others and myself may believe I’m worthless because of my past and shortcomings, God believes I am worth sending His Son to die for me.
My mood is not based on what is happening in my life right now. Happiness is circumstancial, based on current “happenings.” The joy of the Lord is deep and constant, based not on current earthly conditions, but on the eternal, ever-present love, peace, and Spirit of God given to His children.
Embrace this truth today and rest in it: You are Who God says you are. Who you and others believe you are is unimportant in light of the opinion of God. He believes you are worth dying for. He offers indescribable peace and joy at all times.
Drop the hand that holds you to past hurt and opinions, and take hold of God with both hands, believing every word that He speaks over you.
Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, Forever; I choose Jesus.
