Psalm 17:5 “My steps have held closely to Your paths [to the tracks of the One Who has gone on before]; my feet have not slipped.”
I’ve always admired David and his heart for God. I’ve mentioned it here before. How beautiful to be called one who is after God’s heart. Made in the image of God, chasing after His heart; His truth, His purpose, His righteousness. I believe this scripture sums up perfectly how David followed and found favor with God: He followed exactly where God led. Of course David wasn’t perfect and we all know He made his share of mistakes. In the Psalms, we repeatedly find David repenting and begging forgiveness because he is afraid of losing His closeness with God. His heart was ever after God. His heart was chasing after God, His feet were following exactly where God led.
I remember when I was little, following my Dad through what seemed like a foot of snow. Had I stepped straight in, it would have came up over my knees because I was so small, but I remember Daddy saying, “just step where I step.” He went before me and cleared a path. As long as I stepped where he did, I didn’t fall or get stuck in the snow. I knew that I could trust the path that He paved.
This is how we’re called to follow God. We watch Him, we step only where He clears the path. Stepping outside of the path that God paves can cause us to fall, get stuck, and become cold. But, if we follow where God leads, our feet will not slip.
My prayer today is that we learn to follow God with more fervor than ever before. Now is not the time to make our own path and fall into a state of coldness, now is the time to trust God so deeply that we can run after Him without falling because we are stepping exactly where He says to step. ♡
