There are a lot of ideas about how to feel brave and encouraged, how to face your fears. There are self-help books and motivational seminars. I have no problem with either but, for myself, the best self-help book that I have ever found is the Word of God. The most motivational speech I have ever heard is the one that I give myself to remember just how far God has brought me, just how amazing God is, and especially when God Himself reminds me who I am to Him.
There are 365 fear-nots in the Bible, one for each day of the year. Countless times in the Bible God tells us to be strong and courageous because He is with us. That encourages me.
There are days when I am terrified to do what God calls me to do because it is so much bigger than me. Then I am reminded that God’s strength is made perfect in my weakness. God calls me to things too big for me so that only He can receive the glory. That encourages me to step out in faith.
Most of the time I feel unworthy of God’s love and mercy, unworthy of the calling that He has placed in my life, unworthy of the forgiveness and redemption that God has given me. Then God gently whispers that that’s just Who He is. He loves unconditionally, calls unworthily, and forgives without restraint. That encourages me.
At times I feel alone-God reminds me that He is always with me and He has also placed people in my life to support, counsel, and love me. I am able to gather with other believers to worship God and hear testimonies of all that God has done in the lives of others. That encourages me.
I am encouraged by God’s love. I am encouraged by God’s mercy and grace. I am encouraged by God’s Word. I am encouraged by other believers. I am encouraged by Christ’s sacrifice. I am encouraged by Christ’s resurrection. I am encouraged by Christ Himself. I am encouraged by “Be not afraid, it is I.” In Christ, I am (In)Courage.
