Women of Bravery

#LampAndLight photo challenge day 7 A small blessing.
After posting about the book of Ruth I wanted to read and study it again (considering doing a group study about it in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned!). □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □
A small blessing that I found this morning is that my 4 favorite women in the Bible – Ruth, Esther, Rahab, and Tamar – are a crucial part of the lineage of Jesus. (Tamar is the mother of Perez, Rahab is the mother of Boaz, Ruth is the mother of Obed, and Esther isn’t mentioned here but she is part of the lineage of David.)

As many times as I have read the book of Ruth I’m sure I had probably noticed this before, but it struck me as a completely new finding this morning and I honestly did a little happy dance. □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □
It may seem a little strange that I love these women so much considering some of the things they did. Esther makes sense because she was willing to risk her life to save her people by going before the King unannounced. But she also lied about who she was. Ruth was willing to leave her life and beliefs to be with her mother-in-law. Tamar and Rahab are a little more questionable. Tamar dressed as a prostitute to deceive her father-in-law so that he would sleep with her and give her a son after the death of her two husbands who were also his two sons. Weird, I know. But that’s the way things worked then. Rahab was a prostitute who helped hide the Israelite spies and initially assisted in their victory of Jericho. □□ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □ □
But the reason that I love each of these women is the one thing that they all have in common: They were willing to do whatever necessary, even if it meant risking their lives. In other words – These women had spunk! Because of their bravery, because they were willing to let their faith outweigh their fear, the lineage of Jesus was complete.

One of my greatest prayers is to be willing to do whatever necessary to follow God’s will, to be who He has called me to be, and to fulfill the purpose that He has for my life. If it means breaking the norm, doing the uncomfortable, or stepping out in complete faith, Lord, make me a woman who will do whatever I have to do to fulfill Your purpose!
