For the last few years I have chosen a word at the beginning of each year to represent what I hope to experience in the New Year. 2015 was freedom, and God absolutely met and exceeded every expectation. God delivered me from so many things last year, broke so many chains that I didn’t even realize held me bound.
As I took the last few weeks of 2015 to decide what word I wanted to choose for 2016, I just kept landing on the word ‘Life.’
2015 was my year of freedom, and yet, I was still living like I was bound.
God has been showing me that it’s pointless for Him to deliver me if I’m not going to live a delivered life.
So, this year, I choose to live in the freedom that Christ has given me.
Walking and living in freedom is a little scary. I was pretty comfy in my captivity. Walking in complete freedom is entirely new territory.
It’s exciting having endless possibilities, and it’s also just a little frightening.
As I somehow allowed the excitement of being free turn to panic, God led me to Galatians 5, the very Scriptures that He used to set me free last year. Verse 1 was my 2015 verse, “Christ has liberated us to be free. Stand firm then and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.”
Now that I’ve learned to stand firm in my freedom with no thought of turning back, it’s time to move forward. So how do I do that?
Move on to verses 13-18, “For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love… I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
Walking in freedom = Walking in the Spirit.
Being led by the Spirit. Following the Spirit to God and remaining in the freedom that only He gives.
I’m not saying it will be easy, but I am so excited to experience the life of freedom that Christ has promised. I have shared in His crucifixion, and now it is time to share in His resurrection life. ♡
I would love to connect with you!
