One of my favorite things I’ve learned from marriage so far is that we’re not always going to agree on everything, and that is perfectly okay.
On the important issues, like Christianity, finanaces, family, etc., of course we need to see eye-to-eye. But, when it comes to opinion and preference, we still have separate personalities, and that is a beautiful thing.
Marriage involves compromise, but not from one person conceding to agree with and obey the other at all times, whether they want to or not. Marriage involves compromise to both give and take, to make each other happy, and to glorify God.
We knew our differences when we were dating and we chose to fall in love and get married as we are. We will continue to grow and change over time, but the goal isn’t to try and change who the other person is, the goal is to love one another unconditionally as an example of the Love of God.
For the newlyweds, the enagaged, or those who are celebrating their 25th year, it’s important to remember that we aren’t called to change our spouse, we’re called to love them. And, if there are changes that need to be made, we talk it out, pray it through, and trust God.
